"Adorazione dei Magi", c. 1550 Duomo Museum, Milan
This tapestry represents the Adoration of the Magi and dates back to around 1550 and is of Flemish manufacture. It is one of the seven tapestries displayed in the Duomo Museum and was originally partof a larger collection of Italian and Flemish tapestries donated to the Cathedral: this was specifically used as an altar frontal.
In the foreground, the Virgin with Child welcomes the Magi who have brought gifts. The middle ground shows Joseph giving water to the donkey and bull while in the background, the spears of Kind Herod's army can be seen.
